The Kruger National
Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with
the best in Africa and is one of
the most popular tourist attractions in South Africa. It has
a surface area of 19633 km˛, and is home to 137 mammals, 450 different
birds, 114 species of reptiles, 227 types of butterflies, 40 species of
fish and 33 different types of amphibians. It is home to Africa's
Big 5, namely the Leopard, Black Rhino, Lions, Elephants and Buffalo.
The best time to go is
in the Winter months of May - August, but it is open all year round and
some people prefer the lush vegetation of summer.
Private Game Lodges situated within the Kruger Game
Reserve or on its borders provide an intimate safari experience with
small groups and knowledgeable game rangers.
Due to its size it falls within two of South Africa's
provinces for ease I have divided it into Kruger North and Kruger South.
Accommodation options in the South include:
Private Game Lodges in the Kruger Park,
or the bordering world-renowned
Sabi Sands and
Manyaleti Conservancy.
